Titchfield Festival Theatre is delighted to launch its 2022 New Playwright Competition

. This year’s contest intends to build on the highly successful 2021 competition, when TFT received more than 275 submissions. The winning play Sleeping Lions by Tom Derrington, which was performed in February, received excellent audience feedback and reviews.

TFT’s New Playwright Competition provides an exciting opportunity for budding new playwrights as well as experienced writers. The qualifying criteria is simple. It must be a brand new full length play, of any genre, and never performed before. The winner will be awarded a cash prize of £1,000 and will see their play performed in the Acorn studio for one week with the support of a TFT Director and actors. The total package is worth £10,000.

Kevin Fraser, Artistic Director of Titchfield Festival Theatre said,

“Last year, we were amazed with the number of new plays we received as part of our first-ever New Playwright Competition. The standard of entries was incredibly high, and we were delighted with the participation from writers across the country. That is why we have decided to launch a new event. The criteria is the same as last year: you must have written a brand new play which can be of any kind – and importantly never performed before.

“The last two and half years have been particularly tough for writers, performers, creatives and people working throughout the arts sector. Therefore we want to give something back: providing a showcase for talented and up and coming playwrights; together with a cash incentive. We look forward to seeing some great new plays over the coming weeks.”

The New Playwright Competition was launched earlier this month and the closing date is 1 September 2022. You can find further information on the Titchfield Festival Theatre website – including submitting your play online – at https://www.titchfieldfestivaltheatre.com/new-playwright-competition/2022.

The winning play will feature in TFT’s 20022/23 programme which was also launched recently. The full brochure is available online here. The programme contains something for everyone! Exciting new drama, award-winning musicals, children’s productions, Christmas shows for all the family and much, much more.
