The Wizard of Oz is a timeless classic, a joyful musical for all the family

The Wizard of Oz comes to Titchfield Festival Theatre to entertain and enchant audiences with songs, dancing, props, special effects and great acting. The production will see the theatre’s new high speed scenic drop downs in use for the first time, enabling the backstage team to magically change scenes seamlessly as the action continues on stage. This major financial investment is yet another step towards Titchfield patrons enjoying the reality of the West End.

The Wizard of Oz is the story of Dorothy Gale, a young country girl who dreams of nothing but going to a faraway land over the rainbow. However, it’s not all fun and games when she gets what she wants; she and her trusty dog Toto have to continuously fight off the wicked witch and meet lots of crazy characters on their journey to get back home. For there is no place like home after all.

Becky Weaving is director of The Wizard of Oz. Becky said, “It is a huge honour to be director of The Wizard of Oz, undoubtedly one of the greatest stories of all time. We have a superb cast and I really feel we have done justice to this wonderful show, bringing the magical land of Oz to life and to Titchfield. There will be plenty of familiar songs, and of course the characters we all love such as Toto, The Tin Man, The Cowardly Lion and Scarecrow. This musical is the perfect choice for everyone to enjoy a joyous return to theatre going after the pandemic, giving us all an opportunity to escape from reality and travel to a faraway distant land.”

Titchfield Festival Theatre’s production of The Wizard of Oz will include some dazzling special effects, uplifting music and a cast who promise that in this show, “You can be whoever you want to be.”
