Find a Partner on Love Island: Titchfield’s first National Theatre collaboration

Simon Frost • Feb 24, 2022

Titchfield Festival Theatre is proud to announce its first-ever collaboration with the National Theatre as part of the NT’s Connections 2022 programme: Find a Partner written by Miriam Battye and performed by the TFT Youth Associates.

What if finding love was a matter of life and death? When a group of contestants enter a TV competition to find true love, not only do they need to please each other, they need to be the chosen ones by the audience who hold the participants’ lives in their hands. Love Island meets with deadly consequences in this play specifically written specially for teenage actors.

Stuart Hibbard, Titchfield Festival Theatre’s Director of Education and director of the show said,

“At Titchfield Festival Theatre we are truly delighted to be involved in the NT’s Connections programme for the very first time. It is a superb opportunity for our talented young actors who will get to perform Find a Partner both at TFT and also at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton this year. If our version of Find a Partner is chosen as the best by the NT, our cast will then perform on the National Theatre stage.

Find a Partner takes a fast paced, comic look at how our society judges other people through the lens of a reality tv show. It also asks other questions such as ‘What is the value of celebrity? Why do people still want to get involved in these types of shows?’

“The fragility behind the need to be accepted and to find immediate celebrity is so prevalent in our society today, making this play extremely topical. The play is performed by our amazing talented cast of young people and the set is fantastic too. However, you will have to come along and watch to find out more!”

TFT’s Youth Associates production of Find a Partner opens at the Titchfield Festival Theatre, St Margarets Lane on Thursday 3rd March until Saturday 5th March 2022. The shows start at 7.30pm. There is a matinée performance on Saturday 5th March 2022 starting at 2.30pm. The play includes the use of strong language. Suitable for ages 13+.
